Volunteering at ChelCSS

ChelCSS has a reputation for providing a high quality volunteering program in the southern suburbs of the City of Kingston. We are committed to best practice in volunteer management and are members of Volunteering Victoria, the peak body for volunteering in Victoria.

Volunteering Roles at ChelCSS

ChelCSS engages a range of volunteers including Community Information Workers (CIW), short term professional project workers, counsellors, Tax Helpers, and placements who choose to stay on after completing compulsory hours. Volunteers freely give of their time without payment, but are reimbursed for approved out of pocket expenses.

All volunteers at ChelCSS must undergo a police check (paid for by ChelCSS), a training period and probationary period.

Community Information Duty Workers

Duty Workers are trained and accredited interviewers engaged in assessing applications for emergency relief, providing community information and referrals. They work directly with individuals and often with people who have complex needs.

Personal requirements for the position include compassion, interpersonal skills, desire to learn and reliability.

All CIW Duty Workers undertake a nationally accredited 6 day course.

Community Information Administration Workers

At our centre we require people for other roles such as:

  • Reception
  • Brochure maintenance
  • Community database maintenance
  • General office tasks (photocopying, restocking of stationery, filing)

Vital Volunteers!

ChelCSS is an active partner in Vital Volunteers! which is group of community agency representatives dedicated to supporting and promoting volunteering in the local community. In May 2010 a Volunteer Appreciation Evening was organised and attended by over 100 local volunteers during National Volunteer Week. Another event will be held in May 2011 to celebrate the work of the many dedicated volunteers in our community.
