No Interest Loans (NILS)

Do you need an essential household item but don't have the money? You may be eligible for NILS©, the No Interest Loan Scheme.

What is NILS©?

NILS© is a community credit scheme with no interest, no fees and no charges. It gives eligible applicants access to a small manageable loan to purchase essential items whilst on a low income.

You may be eligible for a NILS© loan at ChelCSS if:

  • You have a current Health Care Card
  • You need to purchase an essential item
  • You live in the municipality of Kingston within the postcodes of 3195, 3196 and 3197
  • You have lived at your current address for 3 months or longer
  • You can repay your NILS© loan over a 12-18 month period

Loans CAN be for:

  • Whitegoods
  • Heater
  • Microwave
  • Clothes dryer
  • "Bed/Mattress
  • Lounge suite
  • Dining room Furniture
  • Computer
  • Spectacles
  • Asthma Pump
  • Wheelchair
  • Some repairs
  • TV
  • Stereo
  • Vacuum Cleaner

Loans are NOT for:

  • Bond/Rent money or rent arrears
  • Living Expenses
  • Utility Bills
  • Existing Debt

Terms:

  • You can apply to borrow from $200 to $1,200
  • No interest and no fees
  • Loan to be repaid over 12-18 month period
  • Repayments are deducted fortnightly through Centrepay or other nominated source
  • Loan can only be for one item at a time
